MUSIC IS LITERACY

Children who learn to keep the beat have improved fluency in language.

Reading a text more than once is a  proven strategy to improve reading fluency - what better way than a song!

Decoding symbols, letters, words and sentences, visual focus, and visual memory are part of music and literacy.

MUSIC IS MATH

Clapping and counting rhythms, discriminating between notes and their values all helps to develop practical math concepts.

Many math concepts are developed in music class well before they are introduced in regular math class - addition, fractions, intervals are just a few.

Reading music and playing an instrument are the rewards of developing musical independence.

MUSIC IS PRAYER

Here at St. Joseph School we have the ability to use our voices and music to Make a Joyful Noise to our God!
This is truly the most glorious part of our music experience.
